WELCOME TO FORK & FABLE! I am so glad you are here.
Fork & Fable began as a place to document my stories about travel and food and everyday anecdotes that occur in the course of my life. But as my life has expanded as a wife and as a parent now, so has the focus of this blog. I now write about life in Singapore and organically, my blog focuses on the life of an Indian expat in Singapore. I found that whenever anything referred to ‘expat living’ in Singapore, it tends to be focused on the experiences of Westerners who have moved to Singapore. I couldn’t find any blog or website that addresses the specific concerns of the Indian expat living in South-east Asia (e.g. pressing concerns such as where to get my pressure cooker repaired, lol OR best places to get our eyebrow threading done).
In this blog, I also share the ups and downs of my adventures in writing fiction.
So these are the blog’s main themes: Singapore, travel, food and writing.
The aim of this blog is to provide infotainment, i.e. provide you with information that I have found personally useful at some point in time, and at the same time, have fun while doing so. The pursuit of living an interesting life, learning new things, gathering friends and family around the table is at the heart of everything I do, and I love bringing you along that journey – imperfect, a bit messy but always real.
In some earlier life, I worked as a corporate lawyer and got myself a PhD degree in Political Science. But somehow, what I studied was like an academic journal, whereas the life I lived inside my head was a glossy lifestyle magazine. So, at the age of 45 when my dad died and I quit my job in a law firm, I found myself staring at a deep and bottomless abyss – not knowing what to do with the rest of my life.
I wanted a creative outlet and to build something that was authentically my own, bringing my love for food, travel, writing and living a wholesome life together. I have been intermittently writing, taking photographs and posting online, and friends often came and told me how something I wrote resonated with them. So, rather shakily, I took the plunge with this blog. To say that it is scary, and I feel ill-equipped and assailed with self-doubt is an understatement. But as they say in Singapore, ‘If you cannot, you must can!’
“Take in some of that sunshine. Savor that chai. Buy those jhumkas you’ve been eyeing. Gather your friends for an impromptu chaat party. Make your everyday look like you want your life to be. Come on..let’s not postpone living the life of our dreams.”
